Tough assignments for Mervue and Salthll

The Galway derby may have ended in a disappointing scoreless draw at Fahy's Field last Friday, but both Mervue United and Salthill Devon will be hoping to build on their improved form this evening.

Salthill face a tough assignment at Drom against a Limerick FC side that should be heavily involved in the promotion hunt throughout the campaign, while Mervue face a similarly exacting task at Turner's Cross away to Cork City.

Paul McGee has made an encouraging start as Salthill manager and his back-to-basics approach has yielded four points from three games, which is a satisfactory return as the side have been stingy at the back. Building on those performances is what McGee is eager to do with Ronan Forde, James Whelan, Gearoid O'Leidhinn, Eugene Greaney, and Ciprian Straut among those who have shown well in recent weeks.

Mervue, still operating in a comfortable mid table position, were left to reflect on two missed penalties at the end of the Salthill stalemate, but they will head for the banks of the Lee hopeful of springing an upset.

Martin Conneely, Nicky Curran, Rory Gaffney, and Jason Molloy have been key figures for Johnny Glynn's team, which will be seeking to claim a third away win of 2011 that could nudge them into the top half.
