Burke keen to re-focus St James for final

St James’ team manager Seamus Burke has been around teams for a few decades now and he knows too much excitement or back slapping after a semi-final success is a dangerous road to go down. It is one he is determined to avoid.

“Last Sunday was a sweet win, and beating a Kerry team is always nice, especially as we had to travel all the way to Mallow. But there was no cup given out, no medals collected, so we are totally focusing now on trying to finish off the job and winning the final.

“We had some terrific individual performances, but what was most pleasing is that everyone who saw action worked so hard and gave everything they had for the team. We will need the same attitude and energy in the final if we are to win it.

“We have plenty to work on over the next week or two and the fact that we shot 17 wides is something we will have to look at. We will need to be more efficient and ruthless when we get chances in the final.”

Burke is looking forward to the game and says they intend having all the logistics regarding staying up, travel and match arrangements out of the way so that the panel and management team can focus exclusively on winning the game.

“Finals are there to be won and that is what we will be aiming to do. We have a fantastic panel of players with some great leaders in it and nobody in the club will be satisfied unless we go on and win the final.”
