Christmas lights to be extended to Prospect Hill and Bohermore

For the first time, Prospect Hill and Bohermore will be alight this Christmas as the Christmas lights will be extended into the area.

The Mayor of Galway councillor Declan McDonnell will switch on the lights at The Western Hotel, Prospect Hill, tomorrow at 6.30pm. It has also been confirmed that Santa Claus will be taking time out of his busy schedule to attend and meet the children.

Over the past number of weeks Fianna Fáil councillor Ollie Crowe has been liaising with local residents, businesses, and city officials to bring Christmas lights to the area.

“I am delighted that the lights will be extended to Prospect Hill and Bohermore,” he said. “I think we all need our spirits lifted and this may bring a little festive cheer into our lives.”

Cllr Crowe said that as the local economy has been “severely impacted” by the downturn of the economy. “We need to do our very best to attract people into our city and to encourage them to shop local,” he said. He feels the Christmas lights will play a part in this.
