Cllr Terry O’Flaherty is very pleased that a badly needed water station for Ballyloughane has been installed this week, following her representations to the City Council on the issue.

She said that, as the only member of the ruling pact on the Council in the Galway City East electoral area, she had secured funding in this year’s budget towards the water station.

“Since the removal of the water tap a number of years ago, the area was left without access to drinking water which was a concern of mine, particularly considering the numbers of people of all ages and disabilities that use this facility on a daily basis.

“The water station is located beside the flower bed just across from the picnic tables and I would like to thank Peter Glynn of Galway City Council for the installation of the water station which will be welcomed by all those who use this beautiful facility,” added the Independent Councillor.

Cllr O’Flaherty said she had also made representations to have the piles of seaweed removed from the beach, and these works were carried out, just in time for people to enjoy sunbathing on the sand.

“The high tides and storms we have been having recently brought in a lot of seaweed which was left on the beach and as we are experiencing good weather, it was imperative that this should be removed.

“Concrete plinths have been put in place in the area where the Dexter cows are homed and in Woodlands Green, Renmore, and new seating will be in place in those two areas in the coming days,” concluded Cllr O’Flaherty.
