Senator Lisa Chambers, Fianna Fáil European Election candidate for the Midlands-Northwest, has welcomed a commitment from Minister for Finance Michael McGrath to deliver the Galway City Ring Road project.

She said she was delighted the commitment from Minister McGrath for this vital project, which will deal with Galway’s traffic issues and promote investment into the city.

Minister McGrath made the comments at a business lunch in Galway City, which he attended with Senator Chambers, to discuss the Government’s strategic vision for the region and the upcoming budget.

Businesses from across the region engaged in a productive dialogue with the Minister and Senator Chambers, sharing their perspectives on the operational challenges they face, from elevated costs to regulatory changes. A primary topic was the need for sustained investment in Galway to ensure the city’s growth aligns with the Government’s ambition for a vibrant economic hub in the west.

The event was a pivotal moment for business leaders to gain insight into national economic plans that will shape the future of Galway.

“The Government’s commitment to Galway is unwavering,” assured Senator Chambers. “Our plans for the city are ambitious, with a focus on fostering an environment where businesses can thrive and the Ring Road project is a huge piece of that jigsaw.”

Senator Chambers reiterated the importance of Government plans resonating with the needs of the Galway business community, especially as preparations for Budget 2025 are underway. “Understanding local concerns ensures that our city’s growth is not just planned but also purposeful and inclusive,” she stated.
