RGC's Cian Hayes achieves historic gymnastics result in Birmingham

There was huge excitement in Renmore Gymnastics Club last week during the 2023 Trampoline and Tumbling World Championships in Birmingham.

Following a series of high pressure selection events RGC achieved successful qualification for two of their National Irish gymnasts, Cian Hayes and Hugo Kinahan.

Sadly Kinahan sustained an injury in the final days prior to travel which prevented him from competing. However, Limerick born Hayes made history for Ireland during his debut Senior performance with an impressive PB in prelims, qualifying him in 18th position through to the semi finals.

This phenomenal result saw Haye's campaign develop further, allowing him a final opportunity to rub shoulders with the world's best and gain more invaluable experience out in the arena. He finished overall in 20th position and has truly made his mark on the international stage at such an early point in his career.

Gymnastics Ireland’s National Tumbling Coach Elaine Nash, who is also based in Galway with her athletes at RGC csaid she was super proud of Cian stepping up from Junior ranks onto the Senior World Stage as Ireland’s first ever Tumbling Senior at a World Championships.

"Then to make a semifinal in a field of truly World Class gymnasts was a privilege to watch and be a part of. This outstanding result has raised much excitement back in Galway. It’s a huge achievement for our Tumbling Team to be posting such World Class results and testament to the dedication and quality of training from those members driving this team," she said.
