Close to €200,000 in funding have been allocated for coastal protection works to take place in Leenane, Connemara.
The funding will be used to build coastal defence walls, strengthen defences, and secure weak spots along the coast near the hotel, outside Leenane village, and between the bridge and car park in the village centre.
The allocation has been welcomed by Fine Gael Galway senator, Seán Kyne. “There has been a history of flooding in Leenane, most recently during Storm Eleanor in 2018,” he said. “The strengthening of defences will protect homes and businesses in the community from future such events.”
