Varadkar and Moran launch flood risk plans

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will join Minister Kevin “Boxer” Moran to launch the national Flood Risk Management Plans at the Shamrock Lodge Hotel, Athlone, on Thursday May 3, at 10.30am.

Minister Moran will publish the final output from the Catchment Flood Risk Assessment and Management (CFRAM ) Programme.

The CFRAM study has been underway since 2012 and has assessed 300 areas across the country potentially at risk from flooding. The study has been the largest ever undertaken on how to tackle flood risk in Ireland.

The result of this study is 29 flood risk management plans which identify the measures needed to manage flood risk areas, both locally and nationally.

A 10-year programme of capital investment amounting to almost €1bn through the National Development Plan will underpin the flood risk management plans. The detailed design and implementation of 118 flood risk management schemes throughout the country will be announced by the minister at the meeting.

The Minister will also launch a new website – www.floodinfo.ie – which provides detailed flood maps and a summary of the measures set out in the Plans which can be viewed by location.
