Labour representative urges public to get registered

Labour local area representative Geraldine Mills has urged the people of Athlone and Westmeath to ensure they are registered to vote on the upcoming referendum on the 8th Amendment.

People have until May 8 to ensure they are registered to vote in the upcoming referendum. Anyone who turns 18 up to polling day is also entitled to register to vote on May 25.

Ms Mills said: “As I talk to people, I am struck by how many are still not registered, or are unsure as to whether or not they are registered. Every local resident should exercise their right to vote, and now is the time for people to check if they are registered.

“They can do this simply by consulting the website checktheregister.ie, or checking the Register of Electors at local authority offices, post offices, Garda stations or public libraries. People who are registered but who have changed address can simply fill out the RFA2 form, get it stamped at a Garda station, and return it to the local authority offices.

“We have a once in a generation to have our say on the 8th Amendment. It is vital that if you want to have your say on this issue you take the time to make sure you’re on the register. I am, therefore, calling on everyone to cast their vote on May 25.”
