Licence lost for no lights on

A woman who drove in Mullingar with no lights on has lost her licence for three years after pleading guilty to drink driving.

Agita Bainor who has an address at 52 Cabhan Aluinn in Dungannon, Tyrone was visiting friends in the town when she was observed by gardaí exiting onto the Dublin Road just before midnight on July 4 this year.

Garda Corr followed the 30-year-old and when she was given a breath test at Mullingar Garda station she returned a reading of 68mg alcohol/100ml breath.

Ms Patricia Cronin said her client’s circumstances were quite poor and that the mother of two had one child with special needs who was receiving care in Latvia where she sends money.

However, Judge John Neilan said her offence didn’t tally with her role as a mother.

“How if so much money is required can she afford the luxury of alcohol to the extent that she was intoxicated?” he asked, to which Ms Cronin replied that the event was a “one-off”.

Because she lives outside the jurisdiction, Judge Neilan ordered that her €200 fine be paid immediately.
