Westport turned some of the town’s parking spaces into PARKing havens of a different variety altogether last weekend.
The town took part in its first PARKing Day, a novel worldwide initiative which sees people turn urban parking spots into temporary public parks and spaces for people to enjoy.

Hotel Westport has been awarded, by public vote, this year’s Best Family Friendly Hotel in the Hotel and Catering Review Gold Medal Awards. The awards recognise and reward excellence in hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, spas, clubs and catering operations across the island of Ireland. The awards were presented at a gala ceremony in the Double Tree Hilton Hotel (formerly the Burlington Hotel), on Monday last, September 22. The finalists were judged by a panel of industry experts, who carried out rigorous site inspections at each premises to determine the winners.

Mayo based charity SHARE, which provides support to adults who were sexually abused during childhood, is getting ready to open a support group in Castlebar at the end of September. The group, which started out in Ballina, is moving to a more central location in Castlebar.
Nick Groom who set up SHARE, explained that following the work done by the group in Ballina, a move to a more central location such as Castlebar would provide the opportunity for people from a wider area to avail of the support on offer.
