Major volunteering expo comes to GMIT

Keep your diary free for Mayo’s biggest volunteering event coming to St Mary’s Hall, GMIT, Castlebar, on Tuesday October 7.

The Volunteering Expo will take place from 10am to 2pm and will showcase hundreds of volunteering opportunities across Mayo. More than 20 different local charities and community groups will host information stands about their work and the many different ways people can get involved.

The list of exhibitors so far includes: Irish Girl Guides – North West Region; HSE Speech and Language Therapy Department; Dolmen Clubhouse/Cairde Club; Big Brother Big Sister; Enable Ireland; Western Care; Westport Community Radio (Westcoast FM ); ISPCC; Tacú Family Resource Centre; Mayo Cancer Support Rock Rose House; Love Castlebar; Irish Wheelchair Association; Castlebar/Manulla Table Tennis Club; Louisburgh HQ; Community Action on Dementia; Castlebar NYP/Foroige; Castlebar Celtic FC; GIY Ballina; Mayo Women’s Support Services; Rehab Care; Enniscoe Organic Gardens.

The event will also feature some short presentations on different aspects of volunteering in current times.

Age Action Ireland will present on Opportunities for the Over 55s at 10.30am, and will also provide information about the Care and Repair programme in Mayo.

At 11.30am, Shauna Jackson of GROW will discuss The Mental Health Benefits of Volunteering.

At 12.30pm there will be a discussion about Volunteering and our Intercultural Community, and the presentations will wrap up on the topic of Students and Volunteerism at 1.30pm, when some GMIT students will talk about their volunteering experiences overseas and at home.

The Volunteering Expo is a collaboration between GMIT Mayo and Mayo Volunteer Centre in partnership with Moy Valley Resources and Mayo Intercultural Action.
