A centre which provides supports to sex abuse and sex assault victims in Mayo is searching for the county’s most inspirational woman as part of a fundraising effort to repair storm damage to its building.
The Mayo Rape Crisis Centre suffered a serious setback last year when the New Year storms exposed a structural problem with its building.

Tesco Castlebar has shared its third donation of €1,000 among three local good causes as part of the Tesco Community Fund initiative, which will see €1 million donated annually to good causes across Ireland. Voted for by Tesco Castlebar customers, the three charities and organisations to receive their share of the fund are The Irish Wheelchair Association – Castlebar, Mayo Rape Crisis Centre, and Mayo Volunteer Centre.

This year’s Muintir Mhaigh Eo Atha Cliath Christmas party was the largest ever festive gathering with many newcomers and recent migrants from Mayo joining the long time members of the association to mark the festive season.

The news that the Westport Festival of Music and Food would not be returning to the coastal town next year was announced on Wednesday. A short statement released on the behalf of the promoters of the event said: “After three fantastic years in Westport, the promoters have made the difficult decision to move the popular boutique festival.”
