National Pilgrim Path event to include Easter Monday Tóchar walk

Fri, Mar 20, 2015

Easter weekend has again been designated Ireland's second National Pilgrim Paths event with a nationwide series of walks planned along all of the country's major medieval penitential walkways. To coincide with this event part of Tóchar Phádraig - the ancient Pilgrim Path between Ballintubber and Croagh Patrick - will be walked on Easter Monday April 6 from Aughagower to Ballintubber Abbey. Further details from (094) 9030934 or www.pilgrimpath.ie.

Pilgrims are asked to assemble at Ballintubber Abbey at 11am on Easter Monday, April 6, for a short introduction to pilgrimage and will then be bused to Aughagower to commence the walk. National Pilgrim Paths Day is a new Easter festival based on Ireland's network of medieval pilgrim walking routes. This new pilgrim themed event is organised by the local communities adjacent to each of Ireland's main pilgrim routes and is aimed at raising awareness of Ireland's rich network of pilgrim paths. It is targeted, not only at those who enjoy exploring ancient paths, but also at the growing numbers seeking walkways with deeper spiritual significance.
