Ballycroy’s Nicola in sing off for Voice of Ireland quarter-final spot

Ballycroy’s Nicola Lynch has made it all the way through to the live shows in the popular RTÉ talent hunt - The Voice of Ireland.

The 19-year-old is now getting ready to do battle on stage on Sunday March 29 in the hopes of securing a quarter-final spot in the competition.

Ms Lynch described her experience on the show so far as “amazing” and said she is receiving fantastic support from the local community in Ballycroy.

“Everyone is wishing me good luck, which is so nice to hear,” she said.

Ms Lynch is also getting plenty of support at home, coming as she does from a family of 15 siblings.

“I have a great support network there. I think my family are more excited about it than I am,” she joked.

Ms Lynch is being mentored by popstar Una Foden of The Saturdays girl group.

The Voice of Ireland competition involves a panel of music industry professionals forming and mentoring a team of singers to compete against one and another.

On Sunday March 29, Ms Lynch will go up against two other singers from Una Foden’s team but only one can go through to the quarter-finals show.

Ms Lynch said she is learning lots from her mentor, who has sold millions of albums and toured internationally with The Saturdays.

“Una is lovely,” she enthused. “She is always giving us advice and encouragement and helping us with how we present ourselves onstage and perform. I love the experience so far. It’s all very enjoyable.”

Ms Lynch, a rapper whose favourite artists include Macklemore and Iggy Azalea, said she really needs to wow her mentor during the live battles because it will be Una who ultimately decides if she has done enough to secure a place in the quarter-finals.

“I am nervous because there is some very strong competition, but as long as I go up there and enjoy it and do my best, I think that is all I can do,” she added.

Tune in to see Nicola Lynch on The Voice of Ireland on RTÉ One on Sunday March 29 at 6.30pm.
