Council to ask state to step in and purchase Westport House NAMA loans

Mayo County Council's Economic Development and Enterprise Support Strategic Policy Committee, threw their weight behind finding a solution to securing the future of Westport House. The committee held a special meeting today (Wednesday, October 14) to discuss the future of the attraction after NAMA placed a loan attached to the estate up for sale as part of their Project Arrow portfolio.

€1.3 million for Mayo from Sports Capital Programme

Michael Ring, Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, has announced €1,325,307 in funding for local sports projects across the county. Minister of State Ring made the announcement yesterday (Thursday, October 8) as part of the national programme which saw €41 million handed out to 891 organisations nationally.

Claremorris councillors give go ahead for material contravention of development plan

The elected members of the Claremorris Municipal District this week gave the go ahead for a material contravention to the county development plan for the construction of a major motor service area just past the McWilliam Park Hotel on the Kilcoman Road in the town. The original planning application had included the provision of a 46 bedroom motel as part of the development but that was removed from the plans by the developer. The access to the development will be gained by a new access road.

Renua host meeting to explain budget submissions

On October 5, Renua Ireland formally launched its pre-budget submissions in Dublin’s Royal Irish Academy. Renua Ireland Mayo will be presenting and discussing these dramatic and game changing proposals at a public information meeting at 8pm on Tuesday, October 13 at the Knock House Hotel, Knock.

The principle speaker at this meeting will be Cllr Frank Durkan. Among the policies that will be presented and discussed will be lower taxes for all workers with a 23 per cent flat rate tax, a better deal for SMEs and the self employed, a fix for Ireland’s housing crisis, a break for parents on child care costs, and the abolition of car tax and TV licences.
