Mayo lady scoops first prize at Mad Hatters day for second year in a row

It was hats off on the final day at the Galway Races on Sunday August 2 as the festival closed with the ever popular Ireland West Airport Knock sponsored Mad Hatters competition. The bad weather wasn’t much of a hindrance as Ballybrit was awash with creativity and fashion as adults and children alike flocked to the course in huge numbers with their most creative, outrageous, and surreal headgear.

Mayo SPCA is appealing this week for a home for Cody, a young, fairly large male dog, who is neutered, healthy, and had his first vaccination. He has a lovely temperament, is house trained, very obedient for his age, and excellent on recall, walks well on a lead although needs reminding not to pull from time to time, loves other dogs and playing with them. Because of his size they are looking for a home with older children as he could easily knock toddlers off their feet when playing ball, etc. He would also be an ideal companion pet for anyone living alone.

Lough Mask charity swim

For the past six weeks a group of 15 or so swimmers from around south Mayo have been in serious training with the aim to be the first swimmers to swim the width of Lough Mask. The eight kilometres from Cushlough Bay Near Ballinrobe to Paddy’s Bar, Cappaduff, Tourmakeady, is the goal.

Erris Community Water Sport Club

Safe access to and participation in water sports are provided by the newly formed and voluntary manned community water sport club.

Normal service resumes at Mayo pharmacies

The pharmacy/HSE action is over for now with hundreds of pharmacists once again dispensing medicines under the Community Drug Schemes. But the Irish Pharmaceutical Union has warned that if the HSE places any obstacles in the way of pharmacies resuming normal services they will be met with a “very swift response”.
