Woman with leg injuries airlifted off Croagh Patrick

A woman was airlifted off Croagh Patrick on Monday evening having suffered lower leg injuries and hypothermia near the summit.

Mayo Mountain Rescue was called to the incident which occurred approximately 20 to 30 metres from the summit. A full team call-out was deployed and Rescue 115 - the Irish Coast Guard rescue helicopter service from Shannon, was called to assist.

While deaths due to road traffic accidents were at an all time low in 2012, seven more people have died on the roads in Ireland this year than during the same period last year, according to figures released by An Garda Síochána this week. That brings the total for 2013 to 118 deaths.
