They were taken by Dublin native photographer Terry O’Brien who came to live in Achill over 30 years ago and subsequently moved to Bunratty in Clare where he currently works in Bunratty Folk Park as a period photographer and also freelance.

The dog warden is on patrol in towns, villages, and townlands in every corner of Mayo in the coming weeks and will be issuing hefty on-the-spot fines to dog owners who do not have a licence for their canines.

Thousands to flock to Croagh Patrick for Reek Sunday

Upwards of 30,000 pilgrims are expected to flock to Croagh Patrick on Sunday for the annual Reek Sunday pilgrimage on the holy mountain. While the thousands of pilgrims make their way up the mountain, the Mayo Mountain Rescue team will be co-ordinating a massive effort on the ground to ensure that any climbers who get into difficulty on the mountain will be quickly taken off the slope.

Lack of footpath in Ballycroy a major concern

The stand-off between a number of agencies in regard to which is responsible for putting in a footpath between Scoil Naomh Bhríde in Ballycroy and the village centre, was raised by Sinn Féin councillor Rose Conway-Walsh at the West Mayo Municipal District this week. Cllr Conway-Walsh called on Mayo County Council to write to the NRA to get it to provide the footpath on the busy road.
