13.5% commercial vacancy rate in Mayo

Commercial vacancy rates in Mayo have increased, from 13.4% in Q4 2014 to 13.5% Q4 2015, according to new research published by GeoDirectory today (Monday, January 11). This was above the national average vacancy rate which stood at 12.6%.The total number of occupied commercial premises in Ireland increased throughout 2015 from 194,642 in Q4 2014 to 195,803 in Q4 2015.

Schoolchildren making 'forty six mile return trip' to get to school

Schoolchildren in parts of south Mayo are making a 46 mile return trip to get to school each day, according to one local councillor. Ballinrobe based Fianna Fáil councillor Damien Ryan told the Mayo Advertiser this week: "In The Neale in one area, it was a mile trip to bring the children to school, it's now 11 miles. I know of other villages where they have to go out 23 or 24 miles to school and back.

Cathaoirleach open to special meeting on flooding

However he said that a representative from a number of Government agencies would need to be present so questions could be answered.
