Sinn Fein councillor Thérèse Ruane has described the government’s decision to cut the school building programme budget as short sighted and morally reprehensible. The Government, in the emergency budget, announced a €54 million cut in education and science capital expenditure including €30 million from the primary and post primary school building programmes.

Jobs in jeopardy with €8m cut in road grants

Mayo County Council’s government grants for the 2009 road work scheme were slashed in last week’s budget by €8 million, the Mayo Advertiser can reveal. This includes a €5.5 million reduction in the regional and local road restoration grant from €13.1 million to €7.6 million.

Family Easter party

A fun filled day for the family will take place in aid of Special Olympics on Easter Sunday from 2pm to 5.30pm in Breaffy House Resort. There will be lots of free Easter eggs, bunnies from Petworld, a bouncing castle, face painting, live music by Silver Circus, and an egg hunt. Admission is €5 per person or €20 per family (two adults and three children).
