Slow uptake for social leasing in Ballina

There have been only three different applications from private individuals to take part in the new social housing leasing initiative in the Ballina Electoral Area. Paul Benson, senior executive officer of Mayo County Council, told an electoral area meeting this week that “there have been three applications in Ballina to be part of the scheme, one for three houses, and two other applications consisting of two apartments each.”

Prison for man who had cannabis for personal use

A Ballyhaunis man who was found in possession of three bricks of cannabis with a combined weight of 116g and a street value of €1,856 was jailed for three months this week in Ballyhaunis District Court. Tomaz Woloszcyzynski, 77 The Maples, Ballyhaunis, denied in court that the cannabis was for sale, and said it was for his own personal use.
