Guided Hour of Prayer for Advent with Adoration, Taize chats, and Scripture reflection will take place on Wednesdays December 8, 15, and 22 in the Dorter, Ballintubber Abbey from 8pm to 9pm. Come and prepare for Christmas with Jesus - He is the reason for the season.

Hats were raised in celebration as Mary Ryan from Knockranny House Hotel, Westport was announced the winner of the Euro-toques Young Chef Competition 2010 at a special ceremony in Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud in Dublin this week. Winner Mary Ryan and fellow finalists, showcased their talents by each cooking one dish for a five course lunch in Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud.

Service users from the HSE Rural Training Centre will hold their latest art exhibition in the Linenhall Arts Centre at 2.30pm on Thursday December 9 . Entitled Garden Notes, it is the result of workshops held at the Rural Training Centre during the summer months under the artistic direction of well-known Mayo artist Deirdre Walsh from Partry.

Achill Christmas Carols

All are warmly invited to a Christmas Carol Service in Achill on Friday December 3 at 8pm in Halla Acla, Achill Sound. The Gospel Singers will sing some favourite carols and there will be a short Christmas meditation, in a friendly and informal setting. Admission is free and tea, coffee and mince pies will be served. This special evening is suitable for all the family.

Newly published author Kate Connon will read from her book, Healing Visions, at Castlebar library on December 8 next. The Belfast native, who has lived in Westport since 2000, discovered she had a healing gift and went on to have visions from God. Cheese and wine reception will start at 7.30pm. Proceeds to Mayo Woman’s Support Services. All welcome.
