When Judge Mary Devins was told that a defendant who had been in Ireland for the past seven years and was working could not speak English she told him in Ballyhaunis District Court: “This is literally ridiculous, you say that you’re here seven years and you can’t speak either English or Irish. That is ridiculous, I don’t believe you.”

Lacken Band on the Strand a huge success

Band on the Strand, organised by Foróige District Council in Mayo, was a huge success once again this year. The heavy rainfall did not dampen spirits on Friday last as 1,800 party goers arrived to the youth event of the year on Lacken strand. The beachfront music festival is an alcohol and drug free gig which provides young people, aged 12 to 18 with a chance to enjoy all the fun of a summer festival without the huge price tag or the pressure to drink or take drugs.

Woman ordered to pay €75 to charity for public order incident

A woman who was found kicking at a door of a house and then lunged at the occupant of the house when the door was opened was ordered to pay €75 to Hope House by July 19 and she will be given the benefit of the Probation Act, at Ballyhaunis District Court this week.
