New documentary series on Westport Community Radio

WRFM 98.2 (Westport’s Community Radio Station) has started a new Documentary Hour every Sunday at 1pm. Hosted by Liamy Mac Nally, the programme has already broadcast the Dying for the Cause series on Mayo’s hunger strikers, Jack McNeela, Michael Gaughan, and Frank Stagg.

Ballina councillors praise parade efforts

Ring welcomes housing capital allocations of over €3.5 million

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring TD has welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Housing and Planning, Jan O’Sullivan TD in relation to the housing capital allocations to local authorities worth €251.5 million for 2012. The allocation will support investment under the national regeneration programme, works to improve the standard and energy efficiency of the national social housing stock as well as meeting commitments under the existing contracts for delivering social and voluntary houses. Further multi-annual capital investment programmes for new housing construction projects will be outlined later in the year.

Speaking during his trip to Chicago, An Taoiseach Enda Kenny stated that mayotv.ie and now their new national online platform irishtv.ie has its finger on the pulse of new media at home and abroad. “Mayotv.ie and irishtv.ie has opened up an entirely new international TV market and I can see a huge demand for this service. ‘If it’s good enough for the Taoiseach it should be for them’ - O’Malley calls for cap on RTE pay

Ballina town councillor Johnny O’Malley this week proposed a motion calling for the Minister for Communications to cap the wage structure at the national broadcaster to €200,000. In outlining the reasons for his motion, Cllr O’Malley told the other members: “I think €200,000 is enough, if it’s good enough for the Taoiseach, it should be for them.” He had previously explained that when RTE closed its Raidio na Gaeltachta studio in Mayo earlier this year, because of a lack of funds, the “obscene” wages that some in RTE earn came to his mind.
