A Belmullet student has made it through to the final of a modelling competition for Tempted Boutique.

Katie McEleney, a 21-year-old marketing and event management student at Sligo IT, is one of 15 hopefuls from across Ireland who qualified for the model search competition.

A Mayo man has undertaken a tandem skydive to raise money for his favourite charity, Mary’s Meals.  Brave Padraig Keogh took the plunge last Sunday, April 6, at Clonbullogue Airfield in Offaly.  Padraig celebrated his 45th birthday the following day.

IFFPG collecting more farm plastics

IFFPG, the national farm plastics recycling scheme, is providing some 200 bring-centre locations nationwide this year where farmers can recycle the full range of farm plastics. Farmers are advised to bring their silage plastics loose to the bring-centres. The rate this year for silage plastics is €12 per half tonne with the label code. This represents the most cost efficient recycling service.

Day care services in D’Alton Home to resume next month

Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony has today welcomed the news from the HSE that the day care services in the D’Alton Community Nursing Home will resume in the first week of May. The second term Fine Gael Deputy said: “The day care services in the D’Alton unit is a vital service and it is a wonderful facility that is hugely appreciated by the community. Staff are now being recruited in order that the service can reopen and the HSE has confirmed to me today, that the day care service will reopen in the first week of May.”

Claremorris gets €400k investment for active travel

Major investment to make Downpatrick Head a tourist hot spot

Downpatrick Head is well known to the people of Mayo, but with the start of the Wild Atlantic Way this year it is about to become a must-see tourist destination for visitors from all over the globe. To make sure that this comes to fruition, it was announced this week that €640,000 has been allocated to create a discovery point at Downpatrick Head as part of the Wild Atlantic Way. The development will see the include an iconic Spirit of Place installation built around a blowhole which will allow visitors to walk around its rim and experience it in a safe manner.

Barrett expresses more concern for Castlebar jobs figures

Cllr Harry Barrett has welcomed the release of Live Register figures for March 2014, released by the CSO yesterday, showing a decrease of 7.06 per cent in the figures for Mayo. However Cllr Barrett has expressed concern over the Castlebar figure, which is the lowest decrease of all the towns in county Mayo, coming in at just over four per cent.
