Mayo business and enterprise needs support says Dr Jerry Cowley

Dr Jerry Cowley today outlined a number of initiatives set out in Labour’s policy programme that he believes will assist Mayo small businesses and enterprises. In a week where Údarás released figures which showed that in 2010 there was a net loss of 132 jobs in the Mayo Gaeltacht, and other major businesses are threatened by lack of credit, Dr Cowley has said it is time to look to Labour for solutions.

Mayo County Council's Road Safety Officer has issued an appeal to members of the council and those who intend on contesting the upcoming election when erecting election posters. “Driver distraction has a negative impact on road safety and so only essential signage should appear,” said Noel Gibbons.

This stunning walk took in the River Moy, as well as bog, lake and forest routes in the beautiful Straide area. Following the walk, refreshments were provided by The Davitt Inn in Straide.

Baxter Healthcare will temporarily lay off 150 full-time workers from its Castlebar plant for a four month period, it emerged this week. The US pharmaceutical company, which is the major employer in the county town and employes more than 1,000 people in its plants in Castlebar and Swinford, let 200 workers go at the end of last year due to the downturn in the economy.
