“Just commitment, no promises,” is the slogan of Green Party candidate John Carey who has declared his candidacy in the upcoming General Election. Mr Carey, who launched his campaign over the weekend, said he wants to see a complete overhaul of our political system.
The 45-year-old building surveyor from Kilmaine said that he wanted to offer Mayo voters an alternative to the “stale stagnant policies” of the old parties that he said are “remnants of the foundation of the State that serve vested interests at the cost to wider society”.
He said that it was important to have Green representation in every county because it was vital to ensure a vigilant Green eye in Dáil Éireann. He urged people to vote Green first to ensure environmental polices are pursued to secure Ireland’s position as a leader in new sustainable energy and food production in the coming carbon trading economy.
