On Saturday, October 27 at 8pm Compántas Lir presents two one-act comedies in Ballina Arts Centre. It's hard to know what is more important to Charlie... the birth of his first grandchild or the birth of a prize foal...and what happens when a confused senior thinks she is a chief officer in a gun run? The award-winning Clare/Galway-based Compántas Lir presents two hilarious one-act comedies with their distinct brand of comedy. With a new play by Mayo playwright Clement Shevlin a night of high comedy awaits. Tickets cost €12.50 and booking is advised.

Mayo County Council was honoured at the Repak Awards during National Recycling Week last week. WEEE Ireland, the Irish compliance scheme for electrical and battery recycling, selected Mayo County Council as a recipient of its Special Merit Award and as a finalist in the WEEE Ireland Best Participating Local Authority Category for its hard work during the year and participation in the WEEE Ireland Collection Programme.

Out and Proud roadshow coming to Mayo

To celebrate Social Inclusion Week 2012, an exciting and colourful roadshow will be coming to Mayo. The roadshow will be in Mayo on Tuesday October 16. The Out and Proud roadshow has been organised to raise awareness of the Family Resource Centres’ Western Region LGBT Network, which provides local supports to members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

The Out and Proud bus will bring an abundance of information, music, and laughter to Mayo’s family resource centres.

Calleary calls for full restoration of AEOS and DAS

Mayo TD Dara Calleary has spoken out on a Fianna Fáil motion calling for the Government to reverse its cuts to the Agri Options Scheme and the Disadvantaged Areas Scheme.

“We need clear and decisive action from the Government to support the agriculture sector, which is the engine of the economy here in Mayo and across the West of Ireland. There are 300,000 jobs in the agri-food industry alone and it contributes €24 billion to the economy,” said Deputy Calleary.
