Dedicated group bring famous Ardizzone art home

The unveiling of eight original pencil drawings by world renowned illustrator Edward Ardizzone in Belmullet this week was a very proud moment for the dedicated local heritage group.

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny was in the Belmullet Arts Centre on Monday to perform the official opening of the exhibition of drawings, which Coiste Oidhreacht Iorrais have been working since 2011 to bring home to Erris, after they were uncovered in an old shirtbox in the late artist’s attic by his daugther Christiana.

The school, which is located just outside of Ballina, was re-assigned as an Educate Together school from its former patronage of the Church of Ireland.

Warning of spike in asthma hospital admissions

The Asthma Society of Ireland is to hold a free, back-to-school, asthma clinic in Castlebar next month and is warning parents and teachers ahead of an expected spike in hospital admissions for children with the condition at this time of year.

Emergency hospital admissions for children with asthma more than triple in the month of September, according to the society.
