Mayo literary evening at The Linenhall

Something About Home, is an evening with Mike McCormack, Dr Liam Harte and Mayo writers, taking place at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Monday 10 April at 8pm, which ties in with the recent publication of an anthology of the same name.

Something About Home is an anthology that provides an invigorating array of creative responses to the experience of migration. It features 60 original works of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction by 39 writers of all ages from across Ireland and Britain. This event celebrates the launch of this anthology and will feature a public interview with multi-award-winning Mayo writer Mike McCormack, mediated by Dr Liam Harte (University of Manchester, and editor of the anthology ), as well as readings by four of the other Mayo contributors to the anthology. The contributors to the anthology are: Mike McCormack, Bernadette Mee-Keaveney, Sheila A. McHugh, Ger Reidy, Kathy Ryder, Ann Moran; Edel Burke, Ruth Mac Neely, Bernadette Davies McGreal, Susan Graham, Séamus McNally, Geraldine Mitchell, and Paul Soye.

Something About Home originated in a series of writing migration workshops held here at the Linenhall Arts Centre (facilitated by Mike McCormack ), as well as in Belfast and Manchester. Most of the contributors to the collection have direct, first-hand experience of living in another country, in some cases for most of their lives. None has remained untouched by the effects of migration, even those who have never, or not yet, left home.

On the night there will be readings from the anthology by, Ann Moran – Traversing the Shiny Openness (poem ), Edel Burke - Passages (short story ) Ruth Mac Neely – Across the River with My Father (poem ), Susan Graham - Legacy (short story ), and Mike McCormack reading from his contribution Six Snapshots of Emigration. Following on will be a public interview with Mike McCormack by Dr Liam Harte. The anthology will be available for purchase on the night. Something About Home takes place at the Linenhall Arts Centre on Monday, April 10 at 8pm. Booking is advised by calling (094 ) 9023733 and online booking at www.thelinenhall.com
