Big Band Boogies at Linenhall

Castlebar Concert Band presents Big Band Boogies on Thursday March 5 at the Linenhall, Castlebar. The band will play a selection of lively marches, jazz, rock, and light classical music. The Castlebar Concert Band convenes for practice on Tuesday evenings in St Patrick’s NS Hall under the direction of Debbie Clarke. Debbie is an experienced musician and has attended several courses and workshop to fine-tune her skills as a conductor. The concert band has been existence for several decades and its musicians perform with lively energy and skill. A great evening of music and entertainment is expected.

The nand is joined by Mayo Youth Orchestra. The young musicians will perform a varied repertoire including Beethoven’s Hymn to Joy, Clarke’s Trumpet Voluntary, and John Williams’ theme from Star Wars. Last year MYO took part in the Festival of Youth Orchestras in the National Concert Hall, Dublin. The experience was greatly enjoyed by those involved. Many believe it has further boosted confidence and performance levels. The young musicians assemble every Saturday for practice in St Patrick’s School under the guidance of conductor Debbie Clarke. Pauline Rogers plays a management role, organising events, excursions and workshops for the young members.

Music classes run concurrently in the school on Saturdays. The classes provide for a wide range of musical ability from absolute beginner to advanced and former musicians who feel in need of additional tuition. All ages are welcome. The annual concert commences at 8pm in the Linenhall theatre. Places are limited for this fun-filled family event so early booking is essential. Prices €15/€10.
