Lorry driver seen doing doughnuts on the road

A man appeared before Ballina District Court this week after he was observed speeding and doing doughnuts on a road in Ballina.

Gardaí were notified on Sunday April 27 at 8pm that Gary Feeney, Lug Doon, Templeboy, Sligo, was speeding and dangerously overtaking in a silver Vauxhall car. The defendant was then observed doing doughnuts three or four times in the area between Ballina and the turn off for the rugby club on the Sligo Road. The defendant was approached by gardaí and was also detected driving with no insurance.

Solicitor for the defendant, Peter Flynn, said that Feeney had bought the car a few days earlier and that the area where Feeney was detected doing doughnuts was renowned for this sort of driving behaviour.

Feeney, who drives a lorry for a building contractor was told by Judge Patrick Clyne said that he won’t be driving a lorry or a “pushbike when I am finished with him”.

Feeney was fined €500 and disqualified from driving for three months. Having no insurance was taken into consideration. Recognisances were fixed.
