Jail for man who stole Pot Noodle, champagne, and Lynx

A Dublin heroin addict who is currently serving an 18-month sentence in the midlands prison was given a three-month sentence to run concurrently at Ballinrobe District Court last week.

The court, which was sitting in Castlebar, heard evidence from Garda Mark Crehan that Darragh Gaynor, 37 Pimlico, Dublin 8, entered Cummins’ supermarket in Ballinrobe on June 1 last and stole a bottle of Bacardi rum and a can of Lynx.

Judge Mary Devins asked the garda if Gaynor had a date that day, to which the garda replied it was quite possible. Garda Crehan said Gaynor returned to the shop at 2.51pm on the same date and stole four bottles of Baileys, a bottle of champagne, and three Pot Noodles. The total value of the stolen goods amounted to €158. Cathy McDarby, solicitor for Gaynor, told the court that her 21-year-old client was pleading guilty. She said he is a heroin addict who is currently receiving methadone treatment in the midlands prison.
