Club competitions spring into life

Balla

Last weekend’s stableford competition which was sponsored by Castlebar Credit Union was won by Alo Filan who scored 38pts, his back nine play saw him hold off the challenge of Sean Canny in second place with Aodan McSuibhnie in third place. The ladies’ competition was won by Mary B O’Donnell who scored 38pts, with Aine MhicSuibne in second place and Patricia Conwell coming home in third spot. The midweek scramble will get going on Wednesday April 8, and the first 50/50 club draw will take place in the clubhouse.

Ballina

Bernie Lawrence was the winner of the Sunday gents’ competition with a score of 44pts, with Charles Doherty finishing in second place and Mick Brady coming home in third. The ladies’ competition last Sunday was won by Marie Forde with a score of 29pts, Helena Syron came home in second place with Claire Cooke taking third spot. The captains drive in will take place on Sunday April 12.

Ballinrobe

The gents’ singles stroke competition was won by David Robertson with a score of 70 nett, Geoffrey Sheridan won the gross prize with Daniel Merrigan, Richard Dooley, and Willie Connolly taking the category wins. The front nine competition was won by Sean Frehan with James Dooley winning the back nine prize. The ladies’ singles stableford competition was won by Joanne Hynes who scored 76 nett, second place went to Sheila Molloy, with Anne Galvin winning the gross prize, and Marie Burke taking third place. The front nine competition was won by Marian Walsh with Carmel Sweeney taking the back nine win.

Claremorris

Tommy Hynes was the winner of the Roche’s Centra sponsored competition last weekend with a score of 39pts, Conor McGuinness finished in second place. The ladies’ competition was won by Marie Healy with Pat Hester winning the nine-hole competition. The club will host an open competition from today Friday until Monday April 6.

Swinford

The Spring League continued in Swinford last weekend and Jim O’Donnell was the winner of the gents’ section with a score of 32pts, second place went to Ron Howko who finished with a score of 31pts. The overall competition was won by Ron Howko, with Eamon Ring finishing in second place and Jim Biesty in third. The ladies’ competition last weekend was won by Julie Loftus with a score of 19pts, with Mary Doyle finishing in second place.

Westport

Last weekend’s gents’ competition was won by John Kearns. The senior gents’ rumble was won by the duo of Dave O’Regan and Eugene Lavelle. Second place went to Liam Walsh and Tom Reilly, with Ian Donald and Padraig Kilcoyne finishing in third place.
