Ballyheane look for sixth round spot

Following on from their extra-time win over Strand Celtic in Quigley Park a fortnight ago, Ballyheane will go looking for a place in the sixth round of the Connacht Cup on Sunday lunch-time.

Standing in their way is Galway outfit Mervue United who are three points clear at the top of the Western Hygiene Supplies Premier Division in Galway with six games left to go in the season. Ballyheane warmed up for the game with a challenge match against Westport United B on Monday evening that saw the Coveys run out comfortable winners. Ballyheane will be hoping that their tune up earlier this week will have addressed any problems that they need to get sorted before their showdown on Sunday.

Ballyheane will be hoping that their experience with the likes of Sean Fahy in goal, along with Theron Coghill and Peter Burke at the back will be able to keep the Mervue United attack at bay. Up front their hero in the last round was Andrew Shally who grabbed brace, including an extra time winner against Strand Celtic, while the likes of John Kelly, Dan Purcell and Alan Tuffy keep midfield ticking over. If they go with the same side as they started with in the last game, they’ll also have the option of springing Arek Tobiasz from the bench if the need a push up front.
