Newport and Ballina to welcome the Rás

Mayo is to become a focal point of cycling interest this summer when the An Post Rás comes to the county, with two stages finishing in Mayo, one in Newport and the other in Ballina. Newport will host the finish of stage four of the race on Thursday May 21, and will host the start of the next stage the following day which will wind through northwest Mayo before finishing in Ballina.

The following day’s 142km stage will leave Newport and head towards Mulranny, then on to Ballycroy before taking in Barnatrá, Glenlassera, and the Ceide Fields before winding up in Ballina. The north Mayo town will then host the start of the following day’s sixth stage on Thursday May 21, which will finish up in Ballinamore in Leitrim.
