Businesses in Mayo are being encouraged to enter this year’s Gradam Gnó le Gaeilge competition to be in with a chance to win €7,000 worth of advertising and training.

Gnó Mhaigh Eo, which was set-up in 2007 to encourage and support businesses in the county to use the Irish language in business, announced details of the competition this week.

Gradam Gnó le Gaelige recognises companies and local enterprises in Mayo, outside of the Gaeltacht regions, which have effectively incorporated the Irish language into their business in areas such as signage, branding, social media, publicity material, customer service or their website.

This year’s winning business will receive €2,500 worth of print advertising, €2,000 in digital marketing solutions from SNAP Mayo, €1,000 worth of radio advertising, a complete business identity starter package including a logo, business cards, letterhead and compliment slip designs from Spear Design, Ballina, and other supports, such as mentoring and training from the Local Enterprise Office.

The award winner will also receive €500 in Irish language training from An Teanga Bheo, and a custom-made award designed by a local Mayo artist.

Anybody can nominate a business they feel is worthy of the award. Alternatively, businesses can apply for the award themselves.

Gnó Mhaigh Eo stressed that being fluent in the Irish language is not an essential requirement to participate in the award competition. The closing date for applications is Friday, November 21, at 4.30 pm.
