Castlebar man put off the road for three years

Judge Mary Devins disqualified a man from driving for three years at Castlebar District Court this week after he was convicted of drink driving.

Garda Shane O’Brien was on patrol on September 5 2012 at 9.55pm when he observed a Mercedes drive slowly around The Mall. The driver of the Mercedes Patrick McGovern, Tullycommons, Snugboro, Castlebar, was observed not to indicate on a number of occasions as he made his way to the Newport Road. The garda observed the car veer slightly from left to right and past the new traffic lights on the Newport Road the garda stopped the vehicle.

The garda formed his opinion that the defendant was drink driving and McGovern was arrested. At Castlebar Garda Station the defendant provided a breath sample which showed 77mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

The 49-year-old married father of two has no previous convictions.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him €500 and disqualified him from driving for three years.
