Good showing at National Masters Cross Country Championships

Athletics

Mayo AC started the year with an excellent medal winning performance at the National Masters Cross Country Championships at Gransha Park, Derry, on Sunday last. Not for the first time their masters women’s athletes put the year’s first medals on the table and continued a formidable club record.

The 4km women’s race over a fast course provided an identical top three to the event at Lough Key in 2012. Tullamore Harriers’ Pauline Curley was the winner with her team-mate Mary Scully in second place, while Mayo AC’s Colette Tuohy took the bronze medal. In the W45 event Angela O’Connor picked up another bronze for Mayo AC with her strong performance, seeing her finish in 11th place overall. Pauline Moran finished in the top 30, and was first in the W55 category, a great run after her 2012 fourth place and making it three individual medals for Mayo AC, coming home just ahead of Breege Blehein.
