Five wins for hosts at Eagle tournament

The Eagle club held a short programme of 10 contests last Saturday night in the Wyatt Hotel in Westport. The host club had seven boxers on the night’s bill and picked up five wins out of those contests, marking a very successful night for the club. The best bout of the night went to the meeting of Kieran Roody from Eagle and Eoin McDonnell from the Ardagh/Crossmolina club in a contest that saw Roody come out on top. The meeting of Patrick Lawrence (Eagle ) and Anthony Leonard (Ardagh/Crossmolina ) was another top encounter with the local again picking up the win. The clash of Damien Joyce (Ballinrobe ) and Patrick Fallon (Monivea ) was another tough three round bout with the Mayo boxer just getting the nod on the night to have his hand raised in victory.

The full results on the night saw James Collins (Eagle ) defeat Mathew Murphy (Ballinrobe ) in the boy one 39kg grade. In the boy one 44kg meeting of Carlos Griffin (Eagle ) and Conor Cadden (Ardagh/Crossmolina ), the home fighter was the winner. Kieran Roody (Eagle ) beat Eoin McDonnell (Ardagh/Crossmolina ) in the boy two 37kg grade. It was another win for Eagle in the boy three 36kg meeting of Patrick Lawrence and Eoin McDonnell (Ardagh/Crossmolina ). Moving up the weight in the boy three category, J O’Shea (Castlebar ) saw off Padraic Horan (Ballinrobe ) at 63kg. In the boy one 44kg meeting of Darragh Ludden (Eagle ) and Ivan Ivers (Golden Gloves ) the home boxer was the winner.

Alex Kielty picked up another home win, when he beat Michael O’Haire (Ballinrobe ) in the boy four 79kg contest. Evan Heneghan (Eagle ) and Sean Reilly (Ardagh ) went toe to toe with Hangman winning out. The second last contest on the night was the meeting of Patrick Fallon (Monivea ) and Damien Joyce (Ballinrobe ) in the youth two 68kg category, with the Ballinrobe man winning out at the end.

The last contest on the card saw John G Lawrence (Eagle ) loose out to Nicholas Gallagher (Ardagh/Crossmolina ) in the youth two 69kg grade.
