Farming cuts meeting in Shrule tonight

A campaign led by the Fianna Fáil Agriculture Spokesperson Éamon Ó Cuív against any reduction in CAP funding and against cuts to lower and middle income farmers continues this week, with a public meeting scheduled in Mayo to take place tonight (December 14 ) at Craddocks in Shrule at 8pm.

Deputy Ó Cuív said the aim is to consult local farmers about the challenges they are facing at this time.

“The Budget for next year includes a range of measures that will hit lower and middle income farmers in the west and north west particularly hard. I want to give farmers an opportunity to voice their concerns about this and about the impact of reform of the Common Agriculture Policy," Deputy Ó Cuív said.

“It is my strong belief that funding under CAP must not be reduced. I also believe that more needs to be done to support smaller farmers in this region who are being neglected by the Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney, who is focused on looking after big high-earning farmers in the south.

“Anyone with questions or concerns about these issues is invited to come along to the meeting on Friday. Representatives of the major farming organisations will also be there,” said Deputy Ó Cuív.
