Castlebar students participate in Ombudsman for Children's Human Rights Education Programme

Twenty two transition year students from Balla Secondary School, Castlebar, visited the Ombudsman for Children’s Office to take part in the OCO’s human rights education programme.

Children’s Ombudsman, Emily Logan, was at hand to meet the transition year students who had travelled to Dublin to learn more about the role and functions of the OCO and were facilitated to explore children’s rights and responsibilities through activities.

The programme provides a valuable opportunity for the office to hear directly from children and young people about issues of concern to them and to meet teachers who accompany visiting groups of children and young people.

The OCO’s human rights education programme is undertaken as part of the Ombudsman for Children’s statutory obligation to raise awareness of children’s rights and welfare among the public including children themselves.
