Castlebar Chamber open forum on business and tourism

Castlebar Chamber will hold an open forum on June 5 next with speakers, Joe Gilmore, managing director of Ireland West Airport, and Brian Quinn, client services manager of Failte Ireland West.

Mr Gilmore will be speak on the growth in Ireland West Airport in terms of routes and visitors year on year and the beneficial knock-on effect of new routes to tourism.

Mr Quinn will be talking about Failte Ireland and its role in the west, and Castlebar and the Great Western Greenway, which will be connected to Castlebar from Lough Lannagh later this year. It is then planned to connect it to the Museum of Country Life in 2013. The Greenway contributed to a local economic impact of €6.3 million, which consists of nearly €2.8 million in spend by overseas visitors and more than €3.5m in spend by domestic visitors. Mr Quinn will also speak about the Gathering 2013.

Following the talks, the forum will be opened to the floor for comments and ideas to help get Castlebar moving forward. All are welcome.
