Ballyhaunis woman wins Irish ladies’ windsurfing title

Ballyhaunis native Laoise Ní Dhúda currently living in Tarmon, Blacksod proudly won the national title in ladies’ windsurfing, as well as the Belmullet event title during the bank holiday show-down.

Laoise, sponsored by UISCE watersports centre, fought hurricane winds (63 knots ) and a big swell on Saturday, scoring decent jumps and down the line waves to secure consistent firsts in each of her heats.

Thirty competitors braved the weekend’s wintery weather in these Irish wavesailing finals. Cathal Usher from All Play Watersports Westport, was the first to brave the sea, proving that the Mayo crew are well accustomed to these conditions.

The event, hosted by UISCE Watersports Centre Belmullet, was a roaring success. Sponsors included Erris Beo, UISCE Watersports, Windwise Achill, Siopa an Pobail Eachléim, Léim Siar, Teach John Joe, Barretts Wholesale and the Broadhaven Bay Hotel.
