Wise up to water safety this August Bank Holiday

The safest places to swim and enjoy water activities are at lifeguarded locations, and in Mayo they are situated at Bertra, Westport; Old Head, Louisburgh; Carramore, Louisburgh; Carrowniskey, Louisburgh; Mulranny; Achill Island at Keel, Keem; Silver and Golden strands, Dugort; Ross, Killala; Tidal Pool, Shore Road, Belmullet.

Parents are advised to keep their eyes on children at all times when near or in the water. Boating enthusiasts are warned to always wear a life jacket when on a water craft and to slow down and respect the presence of other water users.

The public are also asked to report damaged or missing ring buoys to the local authority.
