A positive economy for International Women’s Day

On the centenary of International Women’s Day, Mayo’s businesswomen attended the Mayo County Enterprise Board / Network Mayo celebration at Knockranny House Hotel, in Westport. The event featured guest speaker, Susan Hayes (the Positive Economist ).

The focus of the talk stemmed from Network Mayo’s 2011 theme, Inspiring Innovation, which Ms Hayes referred to at the outset. Building relationships, being innovative, not being afraid to ask for help, and offering it to those who need it – were all core elements of Susan Hayes’ own experience and success.

“We’re sometimes not all that eager to reach out and ask for help or insight from others – the irony is Irish people, in general, like offering help, we’re good at it,” said Network Mayo’s president, Olwen Dawe. “I think Susan displayed clearly how much of a difference her business has experienced through her sheer tenacity and vision – she showed that innovation doesn’t necessarily mean reinventing the wheel, so to speak, rather, not being afraid to run with your ideas.”

The 2011 celebration of International Women’s Day was the first event organised by Mayo County Enterprise Board in conjunction with Network Mayo.

Network Mayo will host the creative arts and business advocacy organisation, BusinessToArts, on Wednesday March 30 in the Claremorris Gallery – further information will be available on www.networkmayo.ie, via the organisations’ Facebook and Twitter accounts, or by email at [email protected]
