Ladies still out in the cold

The ongoing saga of the Mayo ladies and their withdrawal from this year’s All Ireland football championship continued this week. On Monday night a meeting of the ladies’ county board saw the top table ask the delegates to reconsider their decision on withdrawing the side from this year’s championship, a request the players made after the meeting with the county board the previous Friday evening. On Tuesday the ladies’ county board issued a statement which said: “A meeting of Mayo Ladies’ County Board was held last night (Monday May 31 ) where the executive asked delegates, on behalf of the senior panel, to reconsider the decision of the previous meeting to withdraw from the TG4 Senior Championship of 2010. Delegates voted 28 to 9 to uphold the earlier decision. It was also decided to invite an independent committee, made up of Cumann Peil Gael na mBan management to examine the situation within Mayo and to report back to the County Board by September 2010.”
