Drink driving conviction for UK resident

A man who is now residing in the UK was this week convicted of drink driving at Claremorris District Court.

On June 21 2009, Eamon Purtill, with a listed address at Claremount, Claremorris was stopped at a garda checkpoint where he failed a roadside breath test. A subsequent urine analysis showed 123mg of alcohol per 100ml of urine. The car which the defendant was driving had no NCT, however Purtil had it booked in for a test seven days after he was stopped.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined Purtill €250 and disqualified him from driving for one year. The NCT was taken into consideration. As the defendant lives outside the jurisdiction he was ordered to pay the fine immediately.
