The extended families of the late Peter Murphy RIP recently presented the proceedings of a range of fundraising events in his memory.

Six members of his extended family ran the Belfast Marathon plus three relay teams. In Belmullet, on the same day, other family members and friends were taking part in swimathons, walks and runs.

The main organiser was Simon McArthur, who presented a cheque to the value of €10,505 towards the work of the Mayo Suicide Bereavement Liaison Service. This service is for any individual, family, group, or community that needs support following a death by suicide.

This bereavement liaison service began - and a model of service developed, from 2012 onwards. The model of service that began here in Mayo has strongly influenced the now nationwide suicide liaison services throughout the country.

The Family Centre has the responsibility to deliver this service, which is free in Mayo. A similar service is delivered by Vita House and Boyle FRC in County Roscommon, and by Pieta in the rest of the country. All information available on www.thefamilycentre.com or call them on (094 ) 9025900.

The family wanted to thank everyone who participated, supported, donated, and took part in any way. On behalf of the centre, Máire added her thanks to all mentioned above with a special thanks to Simon, Peter’s sisters and all the extended families. This money will go towards continuing the excellent work of the centre in supporting those who need the services of the Family Centre.
